E4 has commissioned a new documentary series that takes a look at the world of Bristol-based dance team and reigning hip-hop world champions the Dark Angels in Break Bristol (H / T).
The show follows them as they fight to achieve what no other has ever done – defend their British title and win back-to-back gold medals at the National Dance Championships.
The new 6 × 60 ‘factual series for E4 is produced by Proper Content and delves into the intimate personal stories of the 30 strong dance troupe, who juggle full-time jobs or education with their passion for dance. Bound by strong friendships and the familiarity of growing up in the tight-knit community of Knowle West, the series follows their ambitious journey throughout the season and up to Bournemouth and the UK Championships.
Harjeet Chhokar, Channel 4 editor-in-chief for Factual, said: “We join the Dark Angels as they live a year like no other, struggling to retain their title and win back-to-back gold medals, an achievement that ‘No other team has achieved, whist handle the daily challenges of sometimes turbulent lives. Breaking Bristol W / T is produced by Proper Content and will be produced by David DeHaney. It was commissioned by Channel 4 factual commission editor Harjeet Chhokar and youth and digital chief Karl Warner. It will air on E4 in 2022.
Breaking Bristol W / T was supported by the government-funded Young Audiences Content Fund (YACF) which is managed by the BFI and supports the creation of distinctive, high-quality content for children and young audiences.
