Meet the NY Subway WAFFLE Dance Crew who got the Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell on ‘AGT’

One of the acts that excites us the most this season on America has talent is WAFFLE Dance Crew. The 10-member group is sure to cause a stir when they take the stage at AGT Season 15.

The group has gone viral in the past for their amazing moves and positive attitude. Learn more about them below, including how they found their name and how they gave back to their community.

5 facts about AGT’s WAFFLE dance team

1. WAFFLE dances in the New York subway.

The band members perform a style of dance called Litefeet, which first appeared in Harlem in the early 2000s. It includes the Harlem Shake, as well as several other movements. WAFFLE members perform in subway cars, often incorporating the poles into their performances.


Why are we called WAFFLE? It’s not because they like breakfast. The name is actually an acronym for We Are Family For Life Entertainment, which was inspired by the Sister Sledge song “We Are Family”.

2. Members competed against each other.

The dancers of the group first met when they attended the Litefeet battles. They played in the subway to earn enough money to participate in these events. Finally, they decided to regroup.

“Over time, we realized that playing together as a unit was better than competing with each other,” band member Johno said in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres explaining their origins.

3. They have appeared several times in ‘Ellen’.

Speaking of Ellen, WAFFLE Dance Crew has appeared on her show several times over the past few years. When they first appeared, the show built them a fake subway car to perform in.


The group told Ellen they aimed to spread positivity among New Yorkers on the subway. They say the dancing saved their lives because it kept them from being dragged into “dark spaces” of the city.

4. They paid up front for their gift of $ 100,000.

Ellen DeGeneres has teamed up with Walmart to give WAFFLE Dance Crew its biggest tip, at $ 100,000. During their next appearance on the show, they revealed how they had used the money.

The group said that Ellen had changed their lives. They invested in themselves personally, as one member was able to afford their first apartment. But they also paid for it by partnering with Reebok to donate 200 pairs of shoes to their community.

5. They always occur during the pandemic.

The group posted videos to their Instagram account featuring members wearing masks and hazmat suits during the coronavirus pandemic. They even shared a video dancing on a nearly empty subway car, with disinfectant spray.

We will have to wait and see if the pandemic will affect their performance in the future. AGT. We’re sure they’ll make it work one way or another.
