The Fly Honeys offers online classes while ordering from home

WICKER PARK – Every summer, the Fly Honey dance troupe fills Wicker Park’s Den Theater with fans for live dance performances unique to town.

Now, the dancers and choreographers behind Chicago’s favorite “fierce, feminist dance and variety show” show you how to shake it up in your living room.

Choreographer and director Erin Kilmurray created The Fly Honey Show ten years ago, incorporating large, high-energy group dance ensembles, storytelling, comedy and musical performances – all backed by a nine-piece band.

With such things banned due to the stay-at-home order, the Fly Honeys are launching two different sets of online gatherings: a dance workshop and a live stream of past performances. Virtual events begin Friday.

The “Honey From Home” dance workshop will be broadcast at 7 p.m. via Instagram Live (@theflyhoneys).

Taught by the choreographers of Fly Honey, the workshops will take place several times a week, at various times, and are free with suggestion donations on a sliding scale. Each week will focus on a dance sampled from previous seasons.

If you’d rather stay on your couch, the Honeys also offer a “Live from the Hive” compilation of archived shows from previous years.

To agree at 8:30 p.m. from Friday to May 1.

The show previously performed in Wicker Park at the Den Theater, 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave. All theaters and concert halls are closed until at least May 1 under Governor JB Pritzker’s stay-at-home order.
